At MJCBY, we understand that the effort to educate also involves connecting our members to one another socially. Throughout the year, we offer social programming for all of our congregants regardless of age. From Sukkot dinners through Lag B’Omer picnics, we strive to create opportunities for personal involvement – truly making MJCBY your home away from home.
Social Action Groups and Activities
MJCBY has a number of very vibrant social action groups that reach out to both our immediate Morristown community, but also the Jewish community worldwide. On the fourth Sunday of each month, we cook and serve at Morristown’s Community Soup Kitchen. We work closely with the Interfaith Council for Homeless Families, where volunteers are always needed. Each year, MJCBY fields a team for the Run for Rachel, a 5K race in Livingston, NJ. We also march in the Israel Day Parade in New York City to show our support.
Women’s Study
Every third Saturday of the month at MJCBY, women are invited to participate in a Shabbat afternoon study session. Following kiddush, women gather in an informal and non-judgmental atmosphere to study topics related to Torah and women’s issues. No prior knowledge is needed. Each January, MJCBY and Sisterhood co-host a Women’s Night, designed to explore topics of interest to women. Serious study, surrounded by food and fun, allow women a chance to share ideas, stories, personal histories and dreams. At Pesach, MJCBY and Sisterhood co-host a Women’s Seder. Using innovative haggadot, woven with personal stories from our members, women celebrate the Exodus from Egypt together.
Shalom Club
In conjunction with the JCC MetroWest, MJCBY hosts a weekly seniors group called the Shalom Club. The group takes trips, shares lunch, welcomes speakers, and more. Every Tuesday from 11 am—1 pm, MJCBY opens its doors for senior gatherings.
Empty Nesters Group
The Empty Nesters Club of the Morristown Jewish Center is a wonderful way to make social connections once your children have left home. The group has new and veteran empty nesters and strives to create social and educational programs for its members. The group has traveled as far as Spain and Morocco, and as close as members’ homes for brunch or a Jazz coffeehouse. It is open to anyone whose children have “flown the coop”.
